What is a typical class like?
Class begins with a gentle warm up followed by a blend of structured and freestyle movement experiences to a range of music with a relaxation at the end. Within a sacred, judgment-free zone, the focus is how your body feels when it moves, rather than how it looks, and to have fun! Participants will be on the floor, seated, and standing and may adjust any part of the class to their comfort.
Do I need any dance experience?
Absolutely none. If you can breathe, you can move. If you can move, you can dance – aka move your body and breathe! If you do have dance experience, this class will offer you ways to connect with your body on a deeper level, expand your creativity, and enhance your fluid nature. Shake Your Soul® is supportive, welcoming, and inclusive for every body and all shapes, sizes, ages, and fitness levels are invited to play!
What if I’m a bit (or a lot) out of shape?
You will fit right in! Shake Your Soul® guides you through a variety of movements, from gentle and quiet to dynamic and exuberant and within that range, you get to set the pace. The peak of the class calls for moderate level of exertion and you are free to adjust your level of intensity based on your needs and comfort.
What do you mean about “fluid dance repertoire?”
Your body is more fluid than solid; you literally are a body of water! Shake Your Soul® taps into this truth and leads participants through a movement journey based on the different fluid systems in the body, for example, the powerful circulation of your blood and playful synovial fluid in your joints. This facilitates a whole-body experience as you express diverse movement qualities and rhythms, with a range of music to support you.
What if I feel self-conscious?
You are not alone! It is normal to feel nervous or unsure about your body and what it might look like while moving in a culture that has judged, criticized, shamed, or bypassed the sacred vessel for thousands of years. Shake Your Soul® offers a much-needed remedy of sacred space for you to reclaim your body as yours and remember your magnificence. Some discomfort while you are learning anything new is to be expected and gets easier with practice. Trust me 😉
